Meet the Team
I’m Sindy Matthews, Fitness Professional, Wellness Coach, and founder of Smart Health & Fitness.
I’ve been in the fitness industry since 2006. Before that I was overweight, lived for the weekend, ate terribly, and drank like a fish! Good times!!
But it was obvious this lifestyle was NOT doing my health any good. I was 21, had just graduated university with 2:2, and honestly had no idea what was next!
I got a full time job as a Receptionist and started my journey in the corporate world. Yet I never felt I belonged in an office, just felt wrong. I needed to move!
I was also very overweight for my height, closing in on 13 stone. I tried so many different faddy diets I lost count, but still I lived for the weekend! Ultimately I was stressed, working long hours, and going nowhere!
So I joined the gym with my best friend. LOVED it!! Exercise made my soul SING!
I was so inspired by the instructors there that I decided to book myself onto a course and take my Level 2 Exercise to Music module.
Luckily for me I passed, otherwise you wouldn’t be reading this bio now! There was no turning back, I knew this was going to be the career for me. But there was more, I needed to learn the art of nutrition and healthy eating. In 2007 I was fortunate enough to be part of the Kick Start Fat Loss trial run by international fitness professional Rachel Holmes, and I am now the Banbury and District KSFL coach. I truly believe my combination of varied workouts and nutritional advice will bring anyone who tries massive lifestyle benefits that can continue for the rest of your life!
My passion in life today is to help people achieve their health and wellbeing goals. To be happy, healthy, less stressed and so much more.
I offer more than just fitness classes. I’ll give you my time, honesty and expertise!
I don’t claim to know everything about health and fitness all of the time, but I promise that if I don’t know straight away I WILL find the answer to any questions you have.

Born and bred in Banbury, I grew up with a passion for video games, movies and reading. At school I had a real passion for history and storytelling. At the age of 15 I decided I want to be a film director. I studied Media at the North Oxfordshire College and School of Art (now Banbury and Bicester College) and passed with distinction.
One thing I was never, was fit and healthy. Having failed to become a muscular Adonis in my teens, replete as I was with extremely pale skin, a skinny frame, a height disadvantage, and to top it off nicely, asthma, I failed to be picked for any sporting team sports in PE. Being frequently shunned, and occasionally bullied, crushed any desire to participate in team sports. Over the years I did try my hand at tennis (starting with a wooden racquet!), jogging in Spiceball Park, and even Wii Sports, but nothing ever took hold, and I remained a staunch couch potato, my love for movies providing ample opportunity to sit around doing nothing.
It was learning to drive aged 34 that really caused an issue. Within two years, my only source of exercise, walking, was eliminated in favour of driving, and my waist line was noticeably increasing. A chance encounter with Sindy Matthews at work changed my entire world. I signed up to her Kick Start Fat Loss club, and have never looked back. I am now healthier and fitter than I ever was, my waistline and weight returning to what it was in my early twenties.
As a writer, blogger, web designer, graphic design artist, and general creative consultant I help Sindy with many aspects of SMart, including this very website you are browsing now.
I’m Rachael Parker-Prickett and have been a member of KSFL and SMart Health and Fitness studios for about two and half years, having lost over 3 stones during this time and feeling the happiest and healthiest I’ve ever felt! I am lucky enough to design and deliver management and leadership development, personal development training and coaching and am the Director of I Value Me and We Value Training. As well as my work, my other passions are walking at the beach in all weathers, cooking and clean eating, exercising at SMart Studios, crafting, being around like-minded souls including my fabulous family, and wonderful friends and walking our dog in the countryside.
Tanya Collins has been working collaboratively with Sindy Matthews since July 2014 following a meeting where the two women recognised that they had similar value sets and beliefs around health and well-being. Health and well-being hinge on all personal elements of mind, body, spirit and emotions working synchronistically and synergistically: where body incorporates great nutrition and fitness, mind incorporates thoughts and conscious actions, and emotions drive our actions. Spirit includes our own personal philosophy on life and/or greater purpose. If any one of these things is out of balance, it can significantly impact our overall well-being.
Tanya is a Transformational Coach: this means that she works to empower people into the best that they want to be, and helps people take their own brakes off their own journey, even helping people to identify what those brakes might be if they weren’t aware of them before now!
Tanya can help where a person has behaviours or emotional responses that are either holding them back or preventing them from experiencing life in the way they want to, using techniques that were designed to be very gentle and giving long-lasting relief from the original issues, whilst working in a very safe way that requires very little content. (See www.spectrumaffiliates.com).
For example, Tanya has assisted people with eating disorders, addiction (drugs/alcohol/food etc) anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts or behaviours, the emotional impact of sexual abuse, PTSD – in addition to assisting folk with their blocks to business performance (e.g. procrastination, lack of focus, self-sabotage). Even if you are feeling a bit ‘meh’ and not sure why, we can explore what that is about, deal with it and add some rocket fuel for moving forwards! Coaching into the future is then a truly empowering experience!!
Tanya has a history of working in complex operational environments with complex people. She has spent time in the Prison Service, spending 13 years in total, spanning most operational grades, and leaving the Service as a senior manager in a prison, having reached Acting Deputy Governor in a large West Midlands prison for a spell to cover absence. During these years, Tanya worked not only with managing large function/departments within the prison in operationally demanding roles, but was also responsible for case management of complex prisoner cases relating to active suicidal intent and self-harm.
Out of work, Tanya has a creative heart, loving to play with colour and texture to make artworks which she has exhibited and sold and which now grace walls and homes both nationally and internationally. She also never stops reading and learning, with a slight book addiction that may need some work in the future!
